Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer pre-ground coffee?
At this time, we offer our coffees exclusively as whole bean. While we understand the convenience of pre-ground coffee, this was a thoughtful decision made to preserve the integrity, freshness, and flavor experience in every cup.
Here’s why:
Freshness & flavor. Once coffee is ground, it immediately begins oxidizing as it’s exposed to air. You can visualize this natural aging process similar to an avocado once opened, and the green flesh begins to oxidize and turn brown. This process gradually diminishes the coffee’s aromatics, body, and flavor complexity. Because coffee is a natural agricultural product, extended exposure can also compromise overall freshness and spoil over time.
Every brewer is different. Espresso machines, drip brewers, French presses, pour overs, and home grinders all require different grind sizes for proper extraction. A single pre-ground setting simply cannot deliver the best possible cup across every brewing method and machine.
For the most beautiful coffee experience, we recommend grinding fresh just before brewing whenever possible. It’s a small ritual that makes a remarkable difference in the cup.
Is your coffee organic?
Many of our coffees are grown using organic farming practices, though most are not certified USDA Organic. The certification process requires significant fees and administrative costs that many small coffee farmers simply cannot afford. Because of this, we cannot officially label these coffees as organic, even when they are grown with little to no chemical intervention.
Through our direct relationships with our farming partners and regular visits to origin, we maintain close traceability and firsthand knowledge of how our coffees are cultivated and cared for.
Interestingly, in our experience, many of the world’s finest coffees come from small family farms in developing regions, where traditional growing methods and limited resources naturally result in low-intervention farming practices. In many cases, these farms are already farming in ways that align closely with organic principles — without the formal certification.
While large commercial farms often have the scale and resources to pursue USDA certification, we’ve consistently found that some of the most exceptional and distinctive coffees come from smaller producers who focus their energy on craftsmanship, quality, and care for the land.
Do you test your coffee for mold?
While we do not currently perform laboratory mold testing at our roasting facility, we take multiple preventative quality-control measures throughout the coffee journey to help ensure freshness, quality, and proper storage conditions.
Before roasting, our green coffees are carefully inspected for visual defects, including signs of mold or damage, and moisture levels are evaluated to ensure the coffees are properly dried and stable for storage. Our green coffee is then stored in a temperature-controlled environment designed to preserve quality and minimize excess humidity exposure.
After roasting, coffees are promptly packaged and stored in a climate-controlled room to maintain freshness and integrity. For online orders, coffees are roasted and shipped the same day whenever possible, helping ensure you receive coffee at peak freshness.
Because coffee is a natural agricultural product, proper handling, moisture control, and freshness throughout the supply chain are essential - And these standards are deeply important to us at Caffe Luxxe.
Do you offer light, medium, and dark roast coffees?
Yes — Caffe Luxxe offers a thoughtful range of roast profiles, each designed to highlight the unique character of the coffee while staying true to our Italian-inspired roasting philosophy and deep passion for espresso. Whether you enjoy a bold, opulent cup or something more nuanced and delicate, there is a roast profile to match your taste.
Dark Roast
Our darker roasts are crafted for richness, depth, and intensity — often featuring notes of dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and a fuller body with a smooth, lingering finish. These coffees are roasted longer to develop a deeper, more robust profile with softer acidity.
For those who love a bold, espresso-forward experience, our Montenero Extra Forte is a beautiful expression of this style
Medium Roast
Our medium roasts strike a harmonious balance between sweetness, body, and brightness. They preserve much of the coffee’s natural complexity while adding warmth, structure, and caramelized depth through roasting.
Many of our signature blends fall into this category, including the beloved Montenero Classico - Known for its smooth body and layered notes of chocolate, caramel, and delicate jasmine florals.
Light Roast
Our lighter roast offerings are designed to showcase the coffee’s origin character and natural vibrancy. These coffees are typically more aromatic and expressive, with brighter acidity and nuanced tasting notes such as citrus, stone fruit, berries, or florals.
Our Single Origin selections are often roasted in this style, allowing the unique terroir and craftsmanship of each farm to shine through beautifully in the cup.
At Caffe Luxxe, we believe roast level should complement — not overpower — the coffee itself. From bold and velvety to bright and elegant, each roast is carefully developed to create a balanced and memorable coffee experience worthy of the daily ritual.
How much caffeine is in coffee?
Caffeine content in coffee is influenced far more by the brew method and extraction time than by the roast level itself. Simply put: The longer coffee is in contact with water, the more caffeine is extracted.
Here’s a general guide:
- Cold Brew — Typically steeped for 12–24 hours, resulting in one of the highest caffeine extractions.
- Batch Brew / Drip Coffee — Brewed over approximately 4–8 minutes and generally higher in caffeine than espresso by volume.
- Pour Over — Similar to drip, though often slightly lower depending on recipe and brew time.
- Espresso — Extracted in just 25–30 seconds, creating a more concentrated flavor but often less total caffeine per serving than a full cup of drip coffee. A single espresso tends to provide a gentler caffeine experience.
As a general reference:
- An 8oz cup of brewed coffee typically contains approximately 120–180mg of caffeine
- A double espresso generally contains under 100mg of caffeine
The amount of coffee used also matters. A larger coffee dose will naturally contain more caffeine, regardless of brew style.
Does roast level affect caffeine?
Surprisingly, roast level has very little impact on caffeine content. While darker roasts may lose a small percentage of caffeine during roasting, the difference is minimal. Caffeine begins breaking down at temperatures much higher than typical coffee roasting temperatures, so light and dark roasts remain fairly similar in caffeine content.
What about bean varietals?
We exclusively source 100% Arabica coffee, prized for its complexity, sweetness, and balanced character. Arabica naturally contains less caffeine than Robusta, a different coffee species known for its significantly higher caffeine levels and harsher flavor profile.
And decaf?
Our decaffeinated coffees are processed using the internationally respected Swiss Water® Process and are certified to be 99.9% caffeine free — all without the use of chemical solvents.
At the end of the day, the brew method has the greatest influence on how much caffeine ends up in your cup, and how that cup makes you feel. Longer extractions tend to create a bigger buzz, while shorter extractions like espresso often provide a softer, more refined lift.
How should coffee be stored and how long does it stay fresh?
For the best experience, store your whole bean coffee in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight — a pantry or cupboard is perfect. Our coffee bags are designed to preserve freshness with resealable zip closures and a one-way valve that allows the coffee to naturally degas while keeping oxygen out.
To enjoy coffee at its peak, we recommend grinding only what you need, right before brewing. Freshly roasted coffee is at its best when enjoyed within 1–2 weeks of opening, so purchasing smaller quantities more frequently is ideal.
At our caffes, we’re constantly rotating fresh coffee, and online orders are roasted and shipped the same day for maximum freshness.
We also generally don’t recommend freezing coffee because:
-Coffee can develop freezer burn and lose flavor clarity.
-As a natural agricultural product, coffee is sensitive to moisture and condensation during thawing similar to fruits and vegetables.
-Coffee is highly porous and can absorb surrounding aromas from the freezer.
A fresh roast, proper storage, and grinding just before brewing are the keys to a beautiful cup.
