Coffee’s journey is a tale of romance and intrigue. In 1727 a Brazilian military official was sent to mediatea border dispute between Dutch and French Guyana. During his stay, the wife of the Dutch governor took a fancy to the dashing Brazilian, and upon his departure she presented him with a lavish bouquet of flowers. Unbeknownst to anyone, hidden inside the bouquet was a taboo token of her affection – Live coffee beans. The Brazilian took them home and planted them, and these seeds of love subsequently blossomed into the world’s coffee.
